Obagi Blue Peel®, developed by Dr. Obagi, is an innovative restoration system that uses a slow acting trichloroacetic acid (TCA) solution to chemically peel dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new skin cells. The Obagi Blue Peel® can be used to tighten the skin on the face, neck, chest, back, hands, arms and legs and is effective in reducing wrinkles, creases, acne scars, sun damage, age spots, uneven pigmentation and blemishes.

Younger looking, rejuvenated skin is revealed within days. It is recommended that the Obagi Blue Peel® be used in conjunction with the entire system of skin restoration products for maximum effects and long lasting results.

    Did You Know?

Following an Obagi Blue Peel®, the treated area will remain ‘stained’ in a bluish tint and may remain evident for three to ten days. Therefore, it is recommended that you plan this procedure wisely; do not plan a treatment right before a special function or wedding.

    THE OBAGI BLUE PEEL® PROCEDURE

Obagi Blue Peel® is offered in a plastic surgery center or dermatologist office on an outpatient basis. No anesthesia is used, although the practitioner may utilize a mild sedative based on the patient’s needs. An Obagi Blue Peel® treatment takes approximately thirty minutes to complete.

Obagi Nu Derm®, the system’s pre-treatment solution, is applied to the skin to accelerate the transformation process. The practitioner prepares a mixture of Obagi Blue Peel® and TCA; strength dependent on desired effect. The mixture, a blue paste, is applied to the treatment area. The practitioner will apply one to four layers for generally ten to thirty minutes; time dependent on the numbers of layers and desired results. The patient may experience a warm, stinging sensation around the treatment area for two to three minutes. The doctor then applies the neutralizing formula to discontinue the burning process.

After the treatment, the patient may experience mild discomfort and slight swelling for up to three days. An over the counter pain medication may used during the recovery process. Peeling takes place within three days and completely heals within ten days. The blue tinge will clear after one to ten days. New skin will be slightly pink and will gradually fade over several weeks. Cosmetics may be applied after healing is complete. Sunscreen prior to sun exposure is highly recommended. To ensure proper healing, your practitioner will prescribe the home treatment program. Future Obagi Blue Peel® treatments should be scheduled after four weeks.

    OBAGI BLUE PEEL® PROCEDURE OPTIONS

All qualified practitioners perform Obagi Blue Peel® treatments in a similar manner. No anesthetic is used, although a sedative may be used at the patient’s request.

Obagi Blue Peel® is part of a comprehensive system of skin rejuvenation products. To maximize the restoration process, it is highly that the entire system be implemented. The practitioner may recommend a multiple treatment program, adjusting the frequency and duration of the Obagi Blue Peel® procedure as necessary.

IS OBAGI BLUE PEEL® RIGHT FOR YOU?

Ideal Candidate for Obagi Blue Peel®

The ideal candidate is in good physical condition and has realistic expectations of what can be achieved with Obagi Blue Peel® treatments. Those with skin damage due to wrinkling, creases, blemishes, brown spots, acne scars or sun damage are good candidates. Obagi Blue Peel® treatments are effective in treating men and women of all ages, skin types and color.

Other Considerations for Obagi Blue Peel®

During your consultation, your practitioner will review your medical history and examine your skin type and pigmentation. Be sure to discuss your expected results and any history of viral infections, sensitivity to the sun or prior skin treatments. For optimal results, the practitioner will usually recommend that the entire Obagi Blue Peel® system be implemented.

    OBAGI BLUE PEEL® PROCEDURE COST

Fees vary from state to state and from one practitioner to another. The cost of Obagi Blue Peel® can range from $400 to $700 depending on the extensiveness of the procedure. Other important factors determining the final cost may include Obagi Nu Derm®, the pre-treatment skin care, plus other post-treatment products, which may cost up to $300 or more.

Note: A more expensive procedure price does not necessarily ensure a more skilled practitioner. You should ask for referrals and review testimonials before choosing a practitioner.

Who should get a Obagi Blue Peel® treatment?

Anyone who can benefit from minor “resurfacing” of the skin or has minor to moderate skin damage and is looking for a younger, fresher looking face. Patients with very severe damage might want to consider other options.

What about home kits that sound similar to the Obagi Blue Peel®?

With the recent increase in popularity of skin peels, many over the counter products have become available to consumers.
