Fraxel® laser treatment is a revolutionary technology that repairs damaged skin by penetrating tiny fractions of the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected, which encourages the natural regeneration of collagen and accelerates healing. Fraxel® laser treatment is effective in reducing age spots, brown spots, sun spots, acne scars, blemishes, melasma, wrinkles and stretch marks on the skin of the face and body. Patients see results immediately and progressively after a single treatment. With repeated treatments, the patient’s skin becomes softer, smoother and more rejuvenated.
Did You Know?
Fraxel® laser treatment is effective in improving the texture, color and size of stretch marks on the hips, thighs, buttocks, stomach and breasts. A series of treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired effects.

THE FRAXEL® LASER TREATMENT PROCEDURE
Fraxel® laser treatment is performed in a doctor’s office or laser treatment center on an outpatient basis. A topical anesthetic requires up to sixty minutes to activate and the actual treatment averages thirty minutes to complete.
The practitioner will use a mild scrub to cleanse the skin and then apply a blue tint, called OptiGuide Blue, which increases the precision of the laser work. A topical anesthetic ointment is then applied to the treatment area. The practitioner guides a laser hand-piece over the treatment area, allowing the laser energy to penetrate into pinpoint areas of the dermis; the number, size and depth of the areas vary depending on the desired effect. The patient may experience a heated, prickling sensation and a cooling devise may be used to alleviate any discomfort. Lastly, the practitioner removes the blue tint and anesthetic and cleanses the treatment area.
After Fraxel® laser treatment, the skin may appear bronzed or tanned for a few days. Minimal swelling and some splotchy redness may occur, but usually subsides in one to three days. Most patients can return to normal activities immediately or within a few days. Makeup may be applied soon after treatment. It is important that the skin is protected from sun exposure for three months; it is highly recommended that a sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, and a wide-brimmed hat are worn for all outdoor activities. A moisturizing cream is useful in treating flakiness and reducing dryness.
Most patients can resume light activities within a few days and can return to normal activities in one to six weeks, depending on the type of work and personal recovery rate. Sexual activity should be avoided for up to a few weeks since arousal can cause incisions to swell. Exercise and strenuous activities should be avoided for four to six weeks to allow the body time to heal properly.
The results of Fraxel® laser treatment are visible immediately. As the healing continues, the results will continue to improve for about six months.

FRAXEL® LASER TREATMENT OPTIONS
Fraxel® laser treatment is an outpatient procedure using a topical anesthetic. The procedure may be performed on the face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands, stomach, hips, thighs and buttocks. The practitioner will determine the extent of the treatment based on the amount of sun damage, dark spots, acne scarring or stretch marks.
To achieve the desired effects, a series of treatments is often recommended. Light damage or wrinkling usually takes one to three treatments, while severely damaged skin may require five to seven treatments. A typical program includes three to five treatments, at intervals of one to four weeks.
